I have some small ceramic figures I'd like to try having having re-created in gold or silver from castings. The material I use is fired at 2500 deg, so it's an unusually dense ceramic.
Does anyone here have a lead on a place/person who can produce a small run?
Would it be possible to plate or coat them in gold?

Re: Gold or Silver detailing, casting in LA area?
Tue, October 14, 2008 - 5:49 AMI'm not sure about the LA area, but here in the SF Bay Area you can learn how to do this yourself if you join a Lapidary Club. If the club is a non-profit, they may have restrictions about making things for your own personal profit. Look into it - the education is cheap and you may be suprised at how satisfying it can be.

Mon, October 20, 2008 - 12:14 PMI don't have any local casters, that is usually coveted information. I might be able to find some info on casting companies outside the area. Contact your local JC jewelry teacher and find out who they recommend.
I would recommend making a silicone mold from the piece and doing wax injection for multiples.
I'd be interested in knowing if you'd be able to electroplate ceramic. It might make for some interesting work.
